TOXIC AIR POLLUTANTS

Delhi NCR is one of the most polluted cities in the world, with air pollution reaching alarming levels. This is affecting each one's life significantly , bringing adverse effects on our health. It affects all age groups but , especially more, the younger kids, newborn babies, and the elderly, and also those who are already sick and suffering from some chronic disease.
Various respiratory and cardio vascular ailments occur because of toxic air like- asthma, bronchitis, pharyngitis, rhinitis, hypertension. Even, it causes depression and anxiety disorders, hormonal disturbances, and leads to infertility problems and also premature births.

       PROTECT OURSELVES FROM THE
        HEALTH HAZARDS OF TOXIC AIR

1.The best way to protect oneself from bad air is to minimize the exposure by keeping indoors as much as possible, especially kids and old people. Avoid going outdoor particularly in morning and evening hours. When needed, don't forget to cover the mouth and nose by the mask (N95/99) which acts as an effective barrier.

2.After returning to home wash the face, eyes, and hands with warm water, and change clothes.

3.Air purifiers at home are effective in cleaning the indoor air and reduce your exposure to dust, at least when being indoors.

4.Drink lots of warm water, herbal teas, etc. to maintain a good hydration. Those having nasal and throat irritation should take steam inhalation regularly and do saline gargles.

5.Ensure a healthy diet, rich in antioxidants . Take plenty of fruits, green vegetables, VITAMIN C rich fruits like lemon, oranges, gooseberry, kiwis.

6.Jaggery is a good detoxifier, take it routinely in place of sugar.

7.Other natural detoxifiers like ginger, garlic, onion, turmeric and tulsi water are really helpful and should be taken daily.

8.Airconditioners(recycled mode) can be used in cars,  as it circulates the clean air.

9.Air purifying herbs can be planted at homes and offices like aloe vera, spider plant, money plant, snake plant. We need to plant more our old traditional trees (Neem, Peepal) in our surroundings, which are good natural air purifiers.

Time has come when we have to be strongly active in protecting ourselves and our environment and make our city a beautiful place to live in.

Whenever in doubt consult your pediatrician
