CORONAVIRUS INFECTION: A DEADLY DISEASE

How to protect oneself

People should take simple precautions to reduce exposure to and transmission of this virus, for which there is no specific cure or vaccine. 

1. Most importantly, ensure frequent hand washing, and rubbing hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, that is thorough hand washing is very important. Children should be taught all seven steps of thorough hand washing.


 2. Alcohol based hand rub can be used where hand washing is not feasible. 



3. Avoid physical contact with people, especially in public places, schools, offices, especially with persons showing signs of cough, cold and fever. 

 4. Avoid touching face, nose, eyes, mouth which becomes the route of entry of virus. 

5. Wear face masks that cover nose and mouth adequately. This reduces transmission of virus significantly. It also checks frequent touching of nose and face and serves as a good barrier for the virus spilled in air when affected persons sneeze or cough in your surroundings. 

 6. Boost your immune system with intake of lots of fruits rich in vitamin C, and foods rich in vitamin A, zinc, and selenium. 

7. Drink plenty of water, keeping yourself well hydrated is one of the easiest and most effective way to fight such viral illness. 


8. Avoid undue physical and mental stress which lowers your immune system and predisposes you to such infections.


9. Do exercise regularly to keep your immune system strong.  

10. Avoid travelling as it exposes you to maximum risk of acquiring virus. 

11. Any signs of cough, throat pain, throat irritation, cold, fever, stomach upset needs prompt check up and treatment.
