PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CORONAVIRUS

The current outbreak of Coronavirus in the world, involving around 95 countries, has created a situation of  Global Public Health Emergency. On one hand where health systems of countries are struggling to cope with the high rate of infection, and transmission of this strange virus, on other hand the wave of panic that has spread in masses is troubling authorities. In such a situation of public health crisis, what is most essential and required is to be alert and careful about one's own health and that of surrounding people, keeping stress and fear away.
Following  precautions in day to day life will help you to remain protected from this infection and to prevent it's transmission. These are:

1.Do frequent handwashing with soap and water, especially after coming from outside, from public places, after handling public properties, after using public transport, lifts, etc., after using washroom, before meals, after coughing and sneezing, after wearing and removing face masks, and also after taking care of the sick persons.
Handwashing should be thorough with all seven steps covered every time.Sanitizer should only be used when handwashing is not possible. Sanitizers with at least 60percent alcohol are effective but not equivalent to handwashing.
2.Keep your mouth and nose covered while coughing and sneezing. Better cover with mask, or tissue and dispose off the dirty tissue immediately in a closed bin. Keep at least 1metre distance from those coughing or sneezing.
3.Avoid touching your face, eyes and nose. Also, while wearing mask, don't touch the front surface of mask. Remove mask only from back side holding it's loops.

4.WHO recommends mask to be worn by only those who are infected and are coughing or sneezing, and those who are taking care of the sick and all health workers.

5.Keep drinking lots of water to keep your throat moist, and eat a lot of vit C rich fruits like amla, orange, lemon, guava , kiwi etc. Exercise regularly and take a good sleep everyday. Avoid undue stress. All these things keep your immune system strong and enable it to fight any viral infection.
6.If you are not well, avoid going to work , instead stay at home and take rest. Also kids should not be sent to school if they are sick.
7.Avoid physical contact with others in any gathering, avoid handshakes.

8.Avoid going to any large gatherings, to crowded places, and also travelling as it increases the chance of getting this infection. If travel is unavoidable then first consult the 'travel advisory'issued by govt. of India on it's website.

9.The most important thing is don't spread panic about the disease, and don't propagate fake messages on what's app or other social media platforms. Evidences from WHO and all other national and international health organizations suggest that though Coronavirus infection is spreading very fast but it causes severe infection only in 18percent and deaths in only 2- 3percent of affected people. Majority 80percent of affected persons will only have mild symptoms, just like any other viral infection.
10.But, if you develop any symptom of cough, cold, fever, bodyache, vomiting, diarrhea, consult the doctor timely and take necessary treatment and precautions too.

Consult the Doctor for timely intervention.
