HEALTH TIPS FOR KIDS DURING WINTER
As the month of December has stepped into our lives with it's cool mornings and chilled nights , already surviving with the plight of Covid 19 since a year, it's really a challenge for everyone to combat this.
Especially to protect the children from
the health hazards of this season is really effort taking.
The following are some of the
measures which parents can bring into their practice during this season to
ensure the good health of their loved ones:
1. Keep kids as much as possible
indoors, especially in morning and evening, which by now already has become a
routine for parents and kids to a large extent. Just maintain that in adverse
climate. Better would be to take out kids in daytime, in sun, whenever
possible, but with precautions and maintaining social distance. At least that
will maintain their Vitamin D levels which tend to fall further in winter
season.
2. Cover the kids adequately,
especially for newborn babies this is very important that their head, hands and
feet are well covered. Multiple layers of proper clothing provides good
insulation.
3.Try to keep the room temperature of
home and kids rooms comfortable and warm, for this use proper room heaters, but
avoid blowers, as it dries the mucosa of nose and throat and increases mucus
production.
4. Regular steam inhalation is a good
habit these days, as it keeps the respiratory passages moist and dust free,
thus making your respiratory tract more immune to infections and dust.
5. Kids should preferably be given
bath in daytime, rather in morning or evening. Keep the bath time short and
after giving bath and head wash, keep kids in sunlight. Oiling of skin before
and after bath will help to prevent heat loss from the body.
6. Warm fluids like soups, and warm water should be taken regularly. Hot beverages like tea and coffee, are most popular cold beaters but should always be taken in limited amount as they cause dehydration.
7. A good, nutrition packed diet is
the most important thing to fight the cold especially, vegetables, dry fruits,
jaggery, sesame seeds, all nuts etc.
9.Last, but not least an yearly flu shot boosts your immune system to fight against viral infections and makes chances of getting sick low.
To conclude, continue to stay indoors
, taking a very good care of your health and enjoying the winters.
Happy winters
